Prof. Muhittin Gökmen
Muhittin Gökmen received his B.S. degree from Istanbul Technical University’s Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Department of Electronics and Communication in 1982. After receiving his M.Sc. degree from the same university in 1984, he got his second M.Sc. in 1986 and Ph.D. in 1990 from the University of Pittsburgh. He worked on a project sponsored by the DARPA for one year as a post-doctoral fellow.

Prof. Gokmen joined the Istanbul Technical University Department of Computer Engineering as an Assistant Professor in 1992. He became an Associate Professor in 1993, and a Professor in 1999. He served as the Dean of ITU’s Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering between 2001 and 2004. He subsequently served as the Department Chair for ITU’s Department of Computer Engineering, in the newly-established Faculty of Computer and Informatics. In 2004, he founded the startup, Divit, Digital Video and Image Technologies, which is the first company established by academics in ARI Teknokent. He joined MEF University in 2014 as the Department Chair for its Department of Computer Engineering. He was appointed the Director of the Graduate School of Science and Engineering of this university.


Şuayb Ş. Arslan
Associate Professor
Suayb S. Arslan received his B.S. degree from Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey, in 2006 with high honors. Later, he completed his graduate studies (both M.S. and Ph.d) at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in 2009 and 2012, respectively. In 2009, he was an intern in MERL, Boston, MA, conducting research on data segmentation, clustering and tracking. From 2011 until 2015, he was with Quantum Corporation R&D department, Irvine, CA, focusing on signal processing techniques for tape/disk drives. He worked with IBM, Zurich and HP, Bristol on the next generation high capacity Tape format. During 2015-2016 academic year, he had two short-term invited professor positions in University of Nantes, Nantes, France to work with Polytech IRCCyN Research Institute. His current research include signal processing/coding techniques for data storage systems, software-defined cloud storage design and distributed parallel architectures. His graduate research was focused on coding algorithms for storage, wireless image communications and joint video source-channel coding and transmission. He is a member of IEEE and associate member of Sigma Xi.

Berk Gökberk
Assistant Professor

Berk Gokberk graduated from the Computer Engineering DepartmentBoğaziçi University, Turkey in 1999. He obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the same department in 2001 and 2006, respectively. During his graduate study, he focused on 2D and 3D face recognition. From 2006 until 2008, he was a senior scientist at the Information Systems and Security department, Philips Research Eindhoven where he conducted research on biometrics especially fingerprint biometrics, template protection systems and 3D face recognition. From 2008 until 2013, he was with the Signals of Systems group in the Department of Electrical Engineering Mathematics and Computer ScienceUniversity of Twente. Currently, he works as Assistant Professor in the Computer Engineering Department, MEF University and as Adjunct Faculty Member in Computer Engineering Department, Boğaziçi University.

Şeniz Demir
Assistant Professor
Şeniz Demir, received her BSc degree from Marmara University in 2000 and her MSc degree from Bosphorus University in 2003, both in Computer Engineering. She holds a PhD in Computer Science from University of Delaware since 2010. In her PhD, she focused on natural language generation and assistive technology for visually impaired individuals. In the course of her PhD, she was awarded CIS Frank A. Pehrson Graduate Student Achievement Award and Dissertation Fellowship. Between 2011 and 2017, she worked as a senior/chief researcher at TUBITAK Informatics and Information Security Research Center, where she conducted research on Turkish natural language processing and text analysis. Dr. Demir joined the Department of Computer Engineering at MEF University as an Assistant Professor in September 2017.

Tuna Çakar
Assistant Professor

Tuna Çakar graduated from Biological Sciences and Bioengineering Program of Sabancı University in 2004. He has worked on the 3-D modelling of proteins with perturbation technique in his undergraduate thesis project. He received his master's degree from Cognitive Science Program at Boğaziçi University in 2009. In his master thesis, he worked on the skin conductance and pulse rate methods in order to understand emotional processes of humans. Tuna Çakar obtained his Ph.D. from Cognitive Science Program at the Informatics Institute in Middle East Technical University in 2015. In his thesis, he has worked on the identity judgments and he performed several different models including mathematical, neurophysiological (EEG/ERP, optic brain imaging) and biometrics (Eye-tracker) in order to understand the decision-making processes at various levels. Dr. Çakar is currently working on the applied neuroscience field with sector-specific and academic projects. In February 2017, he joined MEF University.

Serhat Çevikel, Boğaziçi University

Serhat Çevikel received a B.A. degree in Management from Bogazici University in 1999 and MBA degree from Istanbul Bilgi University in 2009. He worked as a specialist and manager in Dis Investment Research Department between 1998-1999 and Is Investment Corporate Finance Department between 1999-2005. During this time, he participated in many valuation, feasibility, IPO/SPO, strategic restructuring and M&A projects. He coordinated post-privatisation transition projects at Turk Telekom as a Board Advisor between 2005-2009.

While pursuing a Ph.D. in Finance degree at Bogazici University Department of Management, Serhat Cevikel conducts research studies and lectures in topics spanning company valuation, computer programming, management simulation, behavioral finance, algorithmic trading in financial markets and big data analytics.
